11-5-2007
(Tupelo, Ms) The Mississippi MudCats are proud to announce
that Linebacker Derrick White (6’3 240) has signed
a contract to play for the Arizona Rattlers of the AFL.
Derrick
led the MudCats in tackles in 2007, with 125 solo tackles
and also led the league with 23.5 sacks. In high school,
Derrick was an All American selection with over 100 tackles
his senior year at Creek Side High School in Union city,
Ga just outside of Atlanta. He joined the MudCats last
season after his position as a standout linebacker for
the Georgia Bulldogs.
Derrick
is most known for having a non-stop motor on the field
and superb pass rush skills. When asked about Derrick,
MudCats assistant coach Kirk Broussard said, “Derrick
is truly a diamond in the rough that has now shined through.
He was the glue for our defense this year. I knew I had
hit the jack pot when I found him during the recruiting
process in the off season.”
